My brother performed there many times and I stood on a chair when I was still too short to reach the mike and sang Rock & Roll Waltz. I have a couple of large photographs of the performers on stage; one shows a very interesting curtain in the background. I would be happy to share them with anyone that is interested.Kevin Hardinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10322874919048742485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1523597192188549347.post-73030460198060961812021-04-22T15:59:57.047-07:002021-04-22T15:59:57.047-07:00KPOP, 1020 on the radio dial! And now on to the Legion Stadium...my brother was a 1945 grad and he had gym in the Legion...I was a mid 50's grad and I remember seeing not only the wrestlers you named but actually more famous one's from those days like Argentina Roca, The Baron Michelle Leone, Vic and Ted Christy, The Black Bomber...and I still have all their autographs. As for Home Town Jamboree...my mother worked at the coffee shop inside Shopping Bag across the street from the El Monte theater and just a hop from the Legion. I used to have early dinner in there on Saturday afternoon after seeing a movie. Many times the whole gang from Home Town Jamboree would be in there eating and I got to meet quite a few of them. What great old memories.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1523597192188549347.post-23542632957282191562013-05-24T15:48:52.008-07:002013-05-24T15:48:52.008-07:00My dad and his brothers owned a shell station righ...My dad and his brothers owned a shell station right across Valley Boulevard from the stadium. On a typical Saturday night we might give direction to twenty parties looking for the stadium--which sat back from the road and was partially blocked from view by a market. Vern Hartman used to amuse himself by sending them out of the station onto Columbia Road, "down to the first stop sign, which is Tyler, right on Tyler till you come to Valley Boulevard, then right on Valley. You'll see a Shell station on your right. The stadium will be set back on your left." Then Vern would stand there till they had run the three legs of the triangle back to where they'd started, and offer a friendly wave when they saw they'd been had.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
